New Delhi, 30 October 2019: The 6th Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit of G 20 Countries (P20) will be held in Tokyo, Japan from 3-5 November, 2019. An Indian Parliamentary Delegation led by Shri Om Birla, Hon’ble Speaker, Lok Sabha, will be participating in the said Summit. The Delegation will depart from New Delhi for attending the summit on 2nd November, 2019.
The P20 Summit for 2018 was hosted by Parliament of Argentina in November 2018. This year Japan is the Chair of the G20. The event is being jointly organized by House of Councillors of National Diet of Japan and Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Geneva, Switzerland. The Summit would have three main sessions. The First Session is based on the theme ‘Promotion of Free, Open and Fair Trade and Investment’. The theme of the Second Session is ‘Utilization of Innovative Technology towards a Human – Centered Future Society’ while the Third Session would be held on the theme of ‘Efforts towards Resolution of Global Challenges and Achievement of the SDGs (Financing for Development, Need for Transparent and Effective Government, etc.)
At the end of the Summit, the Speakers will adopt a Joint Statement (Outcome Document) which would act as Parliamentary inputs to the main G20 Heads of Government/States Conference to be held next year.
The extant P20 Summit is part of various G20 activities and conferences.
