Greater Noida, 22 October 2019: Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla attended a programme to celebrate Deepawali among foreign students, organised by Antar Rashtriya Sahyog Parishad (ARSP), at Sharda University in Greater Noida today.
On this occasion of Deepawali Milan, Shri Birla said that Deepawali is our grand festival, because our culture accords great importance to the light of knowledge. It is through the light of knowledge that we can save ourselves from evils. Referring to Upanishads, Shri Birla said that Upanishads contain a prayer to take us towards light from darkness. Similarly, Deepawali helps us to reach the path of knowledge and light.
Shri Birla emphasised that Indian culture considers the entire world as a family. He referred to the fact that India, following the path of Vasudhaiv Kutumbkkam since ancient times, has always maintained cordial and friendly relations with other countries. He expressed the view that ARSP, in compliance with this age-old wisdom, has been trying sincerely to propagate this spirit among foreign students.
Remembering Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th Anniversary, Shri Birla said that the entire world has reposed unshakeable belief in the Gandhian ideology. As such, we all should try our best to walk on the path shown by him.
Referring to the unity in diversity of India, Shri Birla said that there are diverse traditions, languages, festivals and eating habits in country. But our culture weaves these diversities in a single rosary which integrates us.
Shri Birla thanked ARSP and Sharda University for organising the programme. He wished a very happy and prosperous Deepawali to the students and others.
