India is currently holding the Chairmanship of BRICS. The annual Conference of BRICS is to be held in Goa in October this year. BRICS is a five member international grouping of leading developing and newly industrialized nations - Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa - formed to encourage economic, political and cultural cooperation amongst these countries. And, BRICS Women Parliamentarians’ Forum is an initiative of the Lok Sabha Speaker to bring women parliamentarians of BRICS Parliaments under one roof to discuss ways and means of realizing the targets of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Smt. Sumitra Mahajan has been making consistent efforts to mainstream the role of women legislators in policy formulation and programme implementation, particularly in the developmental sphere. As a first step in this direction, a two day National Women Legislators Conference was held on 5 and 6 March 2016 in New Delhi on the theme of ‘Women Legislators: Building a Resurgent India’.
