New Delhi, 30 August 2022: Floral tributes were paid to former Speaker of Lok Sabha, Sardar Hukam Singh at his portrait in the Central Hall of Parliament House on his Birth Anniversary, today. Among others who paid floral tributes were Secretary-General of Rajya Sabha, Shri P.C. Mody and senior officers of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha Secretariats.
Sardar Hukam Singh was an eminent parliamentarian, a noted jurist, a social reformer and an able administrator. He was elected to the Constituent Assembly in April 1948; he was also a member of the Provisional Parliament (1950-52) and First, Second and Third Lok Sabha. Sardar Hukam Singh was elected as Deputy Speaker of Lok Sabha on 20 March 1956, and he was reelected to the same office again during the Second Lok Sabha. Sardar Hukam Singh was unanimously elected as the Speaker in the Third Lok Sabha and he chaired the House from 17 April 1962 to 16 March 1967. Later, he was the Governor of Rajasthan from 1967 to 1972. Sardar Hukam Singh passed away on 27 May 1983.
The portrait of Sardar Hukam Singh was unveiled by the then President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee, in the Central Hall of Parliament House on 10 February, 2014.
