CAMBODIAN TEMPLES REFLECT SHARED CULTURAL HERITAGE OF INDIA AND CAMBODIA: LOK SABHA SPEAKER

Phnom Penh; 23 April, 2022: Indian Parliamentary Delegation led by Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla, which is currently in Cambodia, visited places of cultural and historical importance; Angkor Wat temple and Ta Prohm temple, today.

In Ta Prohm, officials from Archaeological Survey of India briefed Shri Birla about the restoration work being undertaken in the temple premises. Shri Birla was told that ASI has already completed first two phases of restoration work and third phase is likely to be completed by 2025.

Shri Birla directed ASI officials involved in restoration work in Ta Prohm to              undertake the work with a sense of dedication and precision. He observed that ASI's engagement in restoration work is a matter of pride for all Indians. As such, the trust reposed in ASI for this work need to be fully respected.

In Angkor Wat, Shri Birla described the temple as one of the great cultural wonders of the world. Appreciating the architecture of the temple, he said that it reflects shared cultural heritage of India and Cambodia. Archaeological Survey of India has undertaken restoration work of Angkor Wat. Lok Sabha Speaker and the members of Indian Parliamentary Delegation offered prayers for peace and prosperity of all.
