New Delhi 05 February 2021: Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla addressed the Third DAV United Festival held in New Delhi today. The event was organized by the DAV United Foundation, New Delhi. Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Youth Affairs & Sports; Minister of State, Minority Affairs Shri Kiren Rijiju and Union Minister of State for Finance & Corporate Affairs Shri Anurag Singh Thakur also graced the occasion. At the outset, Shri Birla thanked the DAV family for their dedication and service to the nation and society. He added that he felt proud to belong to this great DAV family.
Appreciating the contributions of Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati, Shri Birla remembered the visionary leader and his pioneering role in giving direction to nationalist thought and social progress.
Shri Birla observed that Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati played a leading role in giving leadership and direction to the war of independence in 1857, and inspired a legion of patriots from Swami Shradhanand, Veer Savarkar, Ram Prasad Bismil, Lala Lajpat Rai and Bhagat Singh. Shri Birla also observed that Swami ji's ideas transcend time and continue to motivate and inspire us. He added that Social change is possible through education and DAV institutes have continued that proud tradition. Shri Birla also said that DAV is at the forefront of providing education in some of the most remote areas in the country, thereby, contributing greatly to the nation’s progress by bringing the marginalized sections to the mainstream.
Shri Birla thanked Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for for his phenomenal role in raising the stature of India at the global level. He also thanked the 130 crore people of India who have shown the world that in the difficult time of the pandemic, Indians can meet any challenge with the spirit of dedication and service and emerge successful.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Anurag Thakur lauded the DAV institutes for their contribution in the field of education and development. Hailing the Prime Minster, Shri Thakur added that the Modi government has provided Pucca houses, toilets, gas connections, bank accounts, and internet facilities to the poor. Acknowledging that during the period of the COVID pandemic, the problem of the digital divide has emerged as a significant challenge and the government has taken a lot of initiatives to bridge this divide. He appealed the countrymen to come together to further bridge that divide. Shri Thakur observed that Sharing is caring; and that students can donate books, tablets, sports equipment etc. to help others. He also appealed to DAV Foundation to contribute to this campaign.
In his address, Shri Kiren Rijiju said that India's global stature in the world has improved in the last few years and it has emerged as a more confident nation. He added that any nation which is confident of its destiny shall always prosper. He appreciated the confidence of Indian youth who have been at the forefront of the pandemic response. He said that looking at the spirit of the youth, he was sure that the youth will build self-reliant India through their commitment, innovation, knowledge, and energy.
Shri Rijiju also announced that in the next few months, a DAV Institute will be made into a centre of excellence for Sports. He added that all assistance from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports shall be provided for this initiative. Shri Rijiju also said that it was his dream to make India a sporting powerhouse and reach the top ten in the 2028 summer Olympic Games.
