LOK SABHA SPEAKER GREETS PEOPLE ON REPUBLIC DAY

New Delhi, 25 January 2021:  Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla has greeted the people on the occasion of Republic Day.  In his message, Shri Birla said, “Hearty congratulations and best wishes to all countrymen on the auspicious occasion of country’s 72nd Republic Day. Today is the occasion when we remember the great leaders of our freedom struggle, whose determined efforts first helped in achievement of country’s independence and thereafter led to the establishment of a full-fledged republic on 26 January 1950.

Our Constitution has made the greatest contribution in ensuring steady progress of the country, in a spirit of unity and harmony, during the last 70 years. Even after seven decades, the Constitution has successfully stood up to every test of time and even today it remains as the most potent medium to fulfill hopes and aspirations of crores of Indians. Our Constitution is a living document of Indian’s culture and civilization that helps in establishment of justice and also shows the way for ensuring welfare of all people.

Over the past seventy years, our Republic has gained a lot of maturity. We have made substantial progress in the fields of economy, science and technology. But, our aim remains to build a strong and self-reliant India, based on the principles of democracy. This can happen only when every citizen of our country reads and understands the Constitution, and along with their constitutional rights, becomes committed to discharge of one’s constitutional duties too.

Come, let us all take a vow today to make our best contribution in the sacred task of nation building by assimilating in ourselves the constitutional and democratic values”.
