LOK SABHA SPEAKER CONGRATULATES MEMBERS FOR THEIR ENTHUSIASTIC PARTICIPATION IN THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE HOUSE

New Delhi 14 September 2020: On the first day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla mentioned about the decisions taken in view of the prevailing Corona pandemic. He congratulated the Members for their enthusiastic participation in the proceedings of the House, at this time. Shri Birla said that it depicts the strengths of our democratic institutions and works towards the growth of the democratic values.
Observing that the Session is being held under very grave circumstances, Shri Birla said 'Owing to the social distancing norms, Members have to sit in the Public Galleries and Rajya Sabha Chamber, but despite this, three hundred and fifty-nine MPs participated in the proceedings of the House. Constructive discussions were held and eight Bills were introduced, while two Bills were passed by the House. '
He expressed satisfaction that today it was a historical day in terms of productivity. All Members were given ample time and opportunity to present their views on the floor of the House. Members spoke in an orderly manner and made the best use of the available time keeping in view the circumstances.
Recalling about former President Bharat Ratna Shri Pranab Mukherjee, who passed away recently, Shri Birla said that the House today paid its heartfelt condolences to Shri Mukherjee and his thoughts and actions have provided a positive direction to the public of our country.
Shri Birla also hoped that Parliament would function smoothly with the active support and cooperation of all MPs, Leader of the House Hon'ble Prime Minister, Leaders of all Political Parties and Members of the Council of Ministers.
Shri Birla remarked that it is the responsibility of all MPs to remain answerable to the people of the country and work towards bringing the hopes and aspirations of people to the notice of the Government through this House.
