‘SUPOSHIT MAA ABHIYAN’ INAUGURATED WITH DISTRIBUTION OF BALANCED DIET KITS TO ONE THOUSAND WOMEN
Kota, 29 February 2020: Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla launched the ambitious ‘Suposhit Maa Abhiyan’ with the aim to create a malnutrition-free India at Bhamashah Mandi campus in Kota today. Smt Smriti Irani, Union Cabinet Minister for Women and Child Development presided over the event. In the first phase of the campaign, 1000 kits of 17 kg balanced diet each were provided to one thousand pregnant women. Twenty-five of them were symbolically given kits from the stage.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Birla said that the ‘Suposhit Maa Abhiyan’ is a campaign to preserve and maintain the health of our future generations. He said that such programmes need to be made mass movements to fulfill the dreams of 130 crore Indians. He said that a pledge has been taken to provide nutrition to every pregnant mother of the region.
Shri Birla observed that the mother is the source of strength and power and the cycle of the world revolves around the mother. As Mother is a symbol of love, compassion and pain, she is worshipped in our culture. He opined that mother’s worship would be possible only when we keep mother healthy and well-nourished. He emphasized that it is our responsibility to ensure the well-being of every mother.
He stressed that though the government is doing its work, yet the support of the society is also necessary. He informed that under this Abhiyan, 1000 women would be given food items for one month for 12 months. At the same time, health of the child, including medical examination, blood test, medicines, delivery, would be covered. The identified women would be required to register on a website for adoption. Only one pregnant woman would be adopted from a family.
Union Minister Smt. Smriti Irani was happy to note that a committed society had gathered to write a new history at the launch of the event. She said that today's program is dedicated to the life-giving mother who gives birth to humanity. She observed that the program is aimed to give the responsibility of the mother to the society, not the family. She recalled that the Prime Minister has started a campaign of nutrition in the country at a cost of 9 thousand crores. She bowed down to the 1000 families which have pledged to adopt pregnant mothers.
She further said that for the first time it has been decided in the country that upliftment of the country is possible only with women. In previous governments, it was not possible to sanction money for the nutrition of pregnant women. However, since 2017, the Modi government has sanctioned Rs 5000 crore. She noted that 11 thousand toilets, 8 crore Ujjwala cylinders have been made available and 15 crore women have taken loans under Mudra Yojana.
