INDIA AND FRANCE SHARE A DEEP CULTURAL AND HISTORICAL BOND BASED ON MUTUAL RESPECT AND SHARED VALUES

 

New Delhi 28 January 2020: President of the France-India Parliamentary Friendship Group, Ms. Celine Calvez, called on Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla at the Parliament House today. At the outset of the meeting, Shri Birla welcomed the French Delegation to India and mentioned about the strong, historical ties between India and France.

 

Shri Birla said that, “India and France share a deep cultural and historical bond based on mutual respect and shared values.” He added that India and France also share a robust partnership in the areas of trade, urbanization and defence production. Shri Birla also informed the French Delegation that the Indian Parliament would also very soon set up an Indo-French Parliamentary Friendship Group that would help deepen ties between the two democracies.

 

On behalf of the French Delegation, Ms. Calvez said that India is a great country with immense cultural and civilization diversity. She added that Indian democracy is extremely vibrant and that Indian elections are a truly immense enterprise. Ms. Calvez informed Shri Birla that a there is a keen interest in India among French Parliamentarians and that a French Parliamentary Delegation would like to visit India later in the year. In response, Shri Birla extended an invitation to Ms. Calvez to visit the Parliament during the Parliamentary Session in July.
