New Delhi, 5 October 2019: Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla participated, as Chief Guest, in the event 'Save Earth' organised by the Rotary Club of Delhi at Constitution Club, New Delhi today.
On this occasion, Shri Birla noted that India is making concerted efforts towards conserving and protecting air and water resources. As such, the Rotary Club of India Heritage's efforts towards banning Single Use Plastic are commendable and an important step in this regard.
Shri Birla observed that environmental purity is an integral part of our culture and lifestyle. In this tradition, India, by banning single use plastic, is taking serious steps for containing global warming.
Remembering Mahatma Gandhi, Shri Birla said that he integrated the country through people's participation and mass movements and thereby earned independence for us. As such, people's participation, mass movements and collective efforts are necessary for cleanliness, environment protection and social change. He urged that awareness should be spread in this regard so that we could achieve our goal by 2020.
He concluded by saying that we should harmonise our efforts for ecocomic and industrial growth with environmental concerns
