LOK SABHA SPEAKER TO LEAD INDIAN PARLIAMENTARY DELEGATION TO 64TH COMMONWEALTH PARLIAMENTARY CONFERENCE BEING HELD IN KAMPALA, UGANDA

New Delhi, 24 September 2019: An Indian Parliamentary Delegation led by Shri Om Birla, Hon’ble Speaker, Lok Sabha and consisting of Shri Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, MP (Lok Sabha); Smt. Roopa Ganguly, MP (Rajya Sabha); Dr. L. Hanumanthaiah, MP (Rajya Sabha), Smt. Aparajita Sarangi, MP (Lok Sabha) and Smt. Snehlata Shrivastava, Secretary General, Lok Sabha will be attending the 64th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference being held in Kampala, Uganda from 22 to 29 September, 2019. The Conference will also be attended by Presiding Officers and Secretaries from State Legislatures from India who are also members of CPA. During the Conference, 10 Workshops will be held on various subjects. Shri Om Birla, Hon’ble Speaker, Lok Sabha will be the lead speaker in some of the workshops. During the visit, Hon’ble Speaker, Lok Sabha will also be holding bilateral meetings with the top leadership of Uganda and his counterparts from other commonwealth countries to discuss the matters of mutual interest and parliamentary cooperation. The Executive Committee of CPA will be meeting during the course of the Conference. Shri Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, MP, Lok Sabha along with Shri Hitendra Nath Goswami, Speaker, Assam Legislative Assembly and Shri Prem Chand Aggarwal, Speaker, Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly will attend this Meeting. Earlier, Smt. Aparajita Sarangi, MP, Lok Sabha and Smt Roopa Ganguly attended the meeting of “Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP) Steering Committee”. Smt Sarangi was also the Discussion Leader at the CWP Conference Session on the topic “Importance of Mentoring for New Parliamentarians” and also on the Workshop entitled “Strategies to deal with Youth and Unemployment”. Shri Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, MP, Dr. L. Hanumanthaiah, MP and Presiding Officers from State Legislatures will also participate in various Workshops/Events. Hon’ble Speaker, Lok Sabha and the Indian Parliamentary Delegation will also interact with the Indian Diaspora during their stay in Uganda.
