New Delhi, 17 July 2019: Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla addressed the 2017 Batch of IAS Officers during an Orientation Course on ‘Parliamentary Procedure and Practice for Assistant Secretaries’ organised by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs in Parliament House Annexe today. Congratulating the Assistant Secretaries, Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla was happy to note that they had qualified the prestigious Civil Services Examination. Shri Birla said there would be many responsibilities to fulfill and numerous challenges to face while performing their duties as administrators and that their actions would be instrumental in the making of a new India, as dreamt by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. Sharing his grassroots experiences as a political and social worker, Shri Birla urged them to work tirelessly without any fear or prejudice for a better quality of life for the poor and the underprivileged sections. He emphasized that efforts should be made to ensure justice to the last man standing at the periphery. Shri Birla hoped that as Sub-Divisional Magistrates, they would have the potential to solve the problems faced by the public in villages as well as towns by ensuring regular dialogue with the common man. He exhorted them to listen to the problems of the people with an open heart and with a sympathetic approach. He said that maximum delivery with new planning and new directions to bring change in people’s life should be ‘your mantra’. Shri Birla hoped that the experiences gained in this process would be helpful in making them a good and successful administrator.
