LOK SABHA SPEAKER LEADS INDIAN PARLIAMENTARY DELEGATION TO 139TH ASSEMBLY OF THE INTER-PARLIAMENTARY UNION IN GENEVA, SWITZERLAND

New Delhi, 12 October 2018 : An Indian Parliamentary Delegation led by Lok Sabha Speaker Smt. Sumitra Mahajan and consisting of Deputy Chairman Rajya Sabha Shri Harivansh; Deputy Speaker Lok Sabha Dr. M. Thambi Durai; Dr. Sanjay Jaiswal, MP; Shri Nagendra Singh, MP; Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati, MP; Shri Harish Chandra Meena, MP; Dr. Heena Vijaykumar Gavit, MP; Smt. Pratyusha Rajeshwari Singh, MP; Lok Sabha Secretary General Smt. Snehlata Shrivastava; Rajya Sabha Secretary General Shri Desh Deepak Verma; and Secretary to the delegation Sh. P.C Koul, Joint Secretary, LSS left for Geneva, Switzerland to attend the 139th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union to be held there from 14 to 18 October, 2018. During the Assembly, the Hon’ble Speaker, Lok Sabha would be addressing the august gathering of Presiding Officers and Parliamentarians from 178 countries on a general debate on the overall theme of “Parliamentary leadership in promoting peace and development in the age of innovation and technological change”. The Indian Delegates will be participating in various meetings during the Assembly such as four Standing Committees of IPU, Forum of Women Parliamentarians and Young Parliamentarians, IPU Advisory Group on Health, the Governing Council of IPU as well as on an Emergency item relating to a major event of international importance. India may also get opportunities to get into the drafting Committee processing resolutions on various issues.
