New Delhi, 8 August 2017: Welcoming the Mexican Parliamentary Delegation led by the President of Chamber of Deputies of the Congress of Mexico, Deputy (Ms.) Maria Guadalupe Murguia Gutierrez in Parliament Library Building today, Lok Sabha Speaker Smt. Sumitra Mahajan said that India and Mexico share historical links and ties. Their common love and respect for democratic values, human rights, international peace and justice make them as natural friends. Smt. Mahajan observed that as fellow democracies, regular dialogue and exchange between parliamentarians and legislators between India and Mexico is very important and would further strengthen their historical bonds and ties. In this regard, she felt that the recent visit of Prime Minister Shri Modi to Mexico in June, 2016 and his fruitful meetings with President Enrique Pena Nieto have deepened India's Privileged Partnership with Mexico. Smt. Mahajan further said that agriculture sector is one of the most important areas for the two countries. She recalled the contribution of Mexico’s Sonora wheat to spurring India’s Green Revolution in the 1960s and felt that agriculture could once again emerge as a fulcrum of our co-operation. She further emphasized on enhanced bilateral cooperation in the fields of satellite manufacturing and launch programme, IT and energy Sector. She observed that there are ample opportunities for strengthening people to people linkages by promoting tourism, educational exchanges and cultural events. Smt. Mahajan said that India remains committed to international cooperation on Climate Change and considers Mexico an important partner in its fight against Climate Change. She sought Mexico’s cooperation in making the International Solar Alliance a success. The President of Chamber of Deputies of the Congress of Mexico, Deputy (Ms.) Maria Guadalupe Murguia Gutierrez thanked the Lok Sabha Speaker for warm and excellent hospitality extended to her Delegation. She hoped that the visit of her Delegation would further strengthen the age-old relationship between the two countries.
