LOK SABHA SPEAKER INAUGURATES SRI WORKSHOP ON SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS (SDGs)
New Delhi, 7 December 2016: Lok Sabha Speaker Smt. Sumitra Mahajan inaugurated a workshop on 'Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) relating to Poverty Alleviation through Skill Development and Employment Generation' in Parliament Library Building today. The workshop for Members of Parliament is being organized by the Speaker's Research Initiative (SRI) of Lok Sabha Secretariat. The workshop is aimed at enabling parliamentarians to imbibe the essence of SDGs and work towards achieving them. The Speakers at the workshop underlined the inherent interconnectedness between poverty alleviation, skill development and employment generation and spoke about how to enable the country in effectively utilizing its vast demographic capital. Members were apprised about the initiatives undertaken by the Government in this field and were also briefed how the Government's schemes may be reoriented for enhancing the employability of people through appropriate training according to market needs. Shri Manish Kumar, MD & CEO, National Skill Development Corporation; Shri T.N. Ninan, Chairman, Business Standard Limited; Shri Sanjeev Bikhchandani, Founder & Executive Vice-Chairman, Infoedge; and Prof. K. Ramachandran, National University of Educational Planning and Administration (NUEPA) addressed the distinguished gathering. A large number of Members of Parliament attended the workshop.
