Speech delivered by Hon’ble Speaker, Lok Sabha, Smt. Meira Kumar on the occasion of in-house cultural programme at Balayogi Auditorium, PLB, New Delhi on 1 May, 2012

.

It has always been a matter of immense pleasure for me to be able to spend some time with all of you. You are the supporting pillars of our Parliament which is celebrating its 60th anniversary on 13th May this year.  It is the result of your sincerity and dedication that the Indian Parliament is looked upon as an example across the democratic world. I take this opportunity to applaud your commitment towards the institution and extend my best wishes to each one of you. I congratulate all the bright, meritorious and multi-faceted children whose hard-work and perseverance have brought laurels not only to them but also to all of us present here.

We are living in a competitive world where achieving our objective demands an unwavering faith in one’s abilities, constant efforts, diligence and dedication.  I am delighted to learn of the accomplishments of our talented youngsters who have made their mark in different fields of Engineering, Medicine and Computer Science, besides securing good grades in their Senior Secondary Examinations.  I am sure, great success awaits you in future and you are going to make the whole nation proud of your achievements.

I am very fond of children. Interacting with them rejuvenates me.  Their creativity inspires me.  Their world is unique. Their expressions have novelty of ideas and reflect originality of thought.  I am often amazed at their innocent expressions and the wisdom beyond their years.  Children are undoubtedly the reserve of unimaginable abilities.  All they need is timely guidance and proper encouragement.

It is indeed commendable that the Children’s Corner of the Lok Sabha Secretariat is making efforts to encourage our children to showcase their talents through various competitive events organized by it from time to time.  I congratulate all the participants and winners of these events and wish to see many more children taking part in the activities of the Children’s Corner in the coming years.

Today’s programme is meant to recognize the officers and staff of the Lok Sabha Secretariat who have put up outstanding performances in the field of sports and celebrate their success. You all will agree with me that sports and art are crucially important for our well-being.  It is heartening to know that many of you have maintained your interest and perfected your skill in these areas.  Your achievements are laudable and will certainly motivate the others present here.

I have always enjoyed the artistic performances of the officers and staff of the Lok Sabha Secretariat, be it folk-dance - the Giddha that was just now performed very beautifully, my congratulations to all the ladies - songs, ghazals, bhajan, patriotic songs and drama. And the young boy, Piyush Jha is very good. The cultural programmes regularly organized by the Welfare Branch have been very interesting.  I wish the very best to all the performers today.

To all the youngsters present here, I would only like to say that the path of success may appear difficult but be ready to face the challenges it poses. Never lose heart and have faith in your dreams.  Don’t forget you are our future and in your hands lies the future of our nation. Wish you all the very best.

Thank you.
